On the July 5th I went to the cinema to see
the new spider-man movie. I must say… it was MINDBLOWING! This movie was
AWSOME!! You may be asking yourself “why?”. Well, here it is! (But if you
haven’t seen the movie… GO WATCH IT and return after).
The movie starts with Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and
Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) walking in a destroyed village after they got a
message that it was attacked by a monster with a face. Well, that monster soon
appears leading to the entrance of Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), that attacks
him.
In the next part of the movie we are shown a memoriam
video for the Avengers that died in the battle with Thanos (Josh Brolin). In this
video we can see Tony Stark/ Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Vision (Paul
Bettany), Natasha Romanoff/ Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Steve Rogers/
Captain America (Chris Evans). Just one thing before we return to the movie
talk: in “Avengers: Endgame” there is no clue that Cap died. But the Russo
brothers soon announced that Captain had died behind the scenes and not on screen.
Well, it was a surprise for me!
Now back to the spider-man movie! The memoriam video
made everybody laugh, because it was a fan editing. After that Betty Brant
(Angourie Rice) and Jason Ionello (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.) are talking about the
so called “The Blip” at the school’s radio. Here is the conversation:
Betty: “Over five years ago, half of all life in the
Universe, including our own Midtown High, swiped from existence. But then,
eight months ago, a band of great heroes brought us back. They called it… “The
Blip”. Those of us who blipped away came back the same age, but our classmates
that didn’t blip have grown five years older!”
Jason: “Yeah, like my little brother is now older than
me!”
Betty: “Yeah, it’s math! And even though we have blipped
away half-way through the school year and had already taken our mid-terms, the
school made us start the whole year over from the begging!”
Jason: “It’s totally unfair!”
Betty: “Tigers, it’s been a long, dramatic, somewhere
confusing road! As we draw this year to a close, it’s time to move on to a new
phase of our lives!”
Jason: “Wait, are the Avengers a thing anymore? I
mean, does anyone have a plan?!”
In the next scene, Peter Parker/ Spider-Man (Tom
Holland) talks with Ned (Jacob Batalon). Peter reveals his plan of getting
closer to Michelle Jones (Zendaya) in the field trip to Europe. He wants to buy
Michelle a necklace with a black dahlia flower, which is her favorite flower,
from Venice. After, when they will get to Paris, he will give it to her and say
his feelings for her. Ned doesn’t look happy, wanting for the two of them to be
American bachelors in Europe. But Peter doesn’t give up on his plan and on the plane
he wants to stay next to M.J and watch movies together.
Well… That led to a complete disaster! It happened like this: Peter told
Ned to go to M.J and Betty (which were sitting together) and ask Betty if she could
switch places with Peter. When the girls asked why, Ned gave this response:
“There’s a lady in front of us that has a crazy amount of perfume and Peter is
allergic to it”. The girls didn’t believe him and Ned started to describe his
friend’s allergies reaction. Unfortunately, Mr. Harrington (Martin Starr) heard
this and, like a dedicated professor, he moved everyone from their seats just
to protect Peter from his “allergies”. After all that switching, Peter ended up
between Mr. Harrington and Mr. Dell (J.B Smoove), while M.J was staying next to
Brad Davis (Remy Hii). Well, Brad liked M.J too so they watched movies on the
whole trip with the plane. While they were having fun, Peter had to listen to
Mr. Harrington’s stories about his wife that pretended to blip just to get with
someone else and other boring things. In this moment, I was really sorry for
Peter!
When they got to Venice the audience and Pete found out that Ned and
Betty were together. When Peter asked Ned about his “American bachelor in
Europe” plan he said: “Those were the words of a boy. And that boy has met a
woman. A strong and powerful one. And that boy has become a man.” Well, after
they went to the hotel and Peter bought the necklace for M.J, Hydro Man appeared
and started creating disaster all over Venice. Peter tried to stop him without his suit,
which he had left at the hotel. Beck soon also appeared and cooperated with
Peter in stopping the monster. Finally, they succeeded after a hard battle.
Later, Beck appeared in the news on TV in a video
filmed by someone who assisted at the battle. Peter’s classmates wondered who
he was and after a long conversation they got to call him “Mysterio”.
The same night, right before going to bed, Nick fury
appeared in Peter’s room and shot Ned with a tranquilizer. Fury explained o
Peter that there had been some other similar attacks like the one that day.
Then, he invited Peter “on a ride”.
While they were in the boat that should have taken
them to the hideout, Fury gave Peter something from Tony for him. In the box
there was a pair a of glasses and a note that said: “For the next Tony Stark. I
trust you. PS. Say Edith. -TS”. Well, those glasses were the ones that Tony
worn in “Avengers: Infinity War”.
A few moments later, Spidey was taken in the hideout,
where he met Maria Hill, Dimtri (Numan Acar) and Quentin, greeting him by
saying: “You’re Mysterio!”.
Beck looked
confused for a moment, and Pete explained to him that his friends called him
like that. Well, we learn later in the movie that Beck liked this name. Quentin
told his story about him being from Earth-833 and that the monsters, called the
Eternals, destroyed his world and his family. He said that he was here to stop
them by doing the same with this planet.
So, Fury and Hill asked Peter if he wanted to join
them to Prague, where the next monster would attack, and help them kill it. The
boy said no, wanting just to stay with his friends and M.J and have a relaxing
vacation. Unexpectedly, Fury seems OK with the idea and lets Peter leave.
The next day Mr. Harrington said that they were going
to Prague instead of Paris, because they got a better offer from the agency. When
Pete saw that Dimtri was their bus driver he immediately realized that Fury setup
everything and, I must say… he didn’t look pleased at all about that.
From this part of the movie a lot of things happen. Peter discovers
E.D.I.T.H, Tony’s glasses with artificial intelligence. Apparently, E.D.I.T.H
stands for “Even Dead I am The Hero” (typical for Tony, if I may say :))
). Peter
gets photographed by Brad while trying to put on he’s new suit send by Fury
trough a lady. Brad tells Peter that he is going to show MJ the photo, wanting
to humiliate him. “Because she deserves the truth”, that’s Brad’s excuse! In
the bus, Peter tries to delete the photo out of Brad’s phone with E.D.I.T.H’s
help, but ends up getting a drone from a satellite in space to destroy the bus.
Luckily, he intervened at the right time, saving everybody. This part was very
cool, because he made everybody look out the window, he jumped out of the bus
roof, using his webs to put the drone down and returning to the bus right on
time! After all these, he told E.D.I.T.H “Let’s try that again!” and managed to
delete the photo in Brad’s phone.
Later, they got to Prague. Mr. Harrington and his
students decided to go at the Light Festival that night. Peter met Fury and got
the news that the Fire Monster was going to attack that night, and had a heart
to heart talk with Mysterio about the struggles of being a superhero.
E.D.I.T.H helped Peter decide where should he keep his
friends during the battle in order to stay safe. E.D.I.T.H. did her magic and
Mr. Harrington announced the kids that they are going to the opera that night
because it was more educational and fun! Peter went with them and talked with
MJ who asked him if he wanted to sit next to her. He said yes, although he knew
that he would be in the city, fighting the monster and not at the opera.
Unfortunately, right before he left, he saw Brad going to sit next to
Michelle, but left when Fury called him. But seeing that he wasn’t coming, MJ
followe him and so did Betty and Ned. Ned, knowing about all these, tried to stop Betty, but it was too late.
While Michelle looked for Peter, he and Betty got into a carousel. The Fire
Monster soon appeared and Spider-Man and Mysterio fought with him. MJ watched the
fight from a street away and, while standing there, something got out of the
monster and she took it. While they were blocked on the carousel, Betty asked
Ned why the black-costumed superhero looked so much like Spider-Man. Ned came
with a desperate answer, calling Spidey “Night Monkey” and saying that he read
about him a few days ago. The couple nearly got killed in the fight, but they were
saved by Mysterio who made a big sacrifice by going into the monster and
released all his powers!
The monster died
and Quentin managed to live. He also won Fury’s respect and the agent asked him
if he would like to join him in Berlin for a mission! Of course, Quentin accepted!
Fury also gave Peter the chance to come with them and this time he let him decide
the answer.
From that moment A LOT things happen! Peter gives
Quentin his E.D.I.T.H glasses, the audience finds out that Quentin is actually
a villain and he has been faking all the friendship with our superhero and with
Fury! (I didn’t expect that he was a villain, although I knew this from the comics.
I mean, before I saw the movie, I saw the trailer and he seemed so nice that I
thought that the director, Jon Watts, had changed him into a good guy!).
MJ found out
that Peter is Spider-Man and showed him the weird object that fell from the
Fire Monster. They realized it was a drone that projected the Eternal Monsters
and that Mysterio was a bad guy.
Peter followed
him to Berlin on the top of a train. At the train station he was seen by a
woman who shouted: “Nacht Monkey!” (which made the whole theater laugh). He
also met Fury who took him in his car and drove him to a S.H.I.E.L.D station.
Peter showed
the drone to him and Maria Hill, but with his Spidey Sense he immediately felt
like something was wrong and realized that everything, the building, the people
and Maria Hill, were projections. (In this part I was confused, because I
didn’t know if Fury was a projection too or if he was real. He was shot by the
drones, which makes him real, but doesn’t appear in any other scene after
that!).
Moving on! Mysterio made his entrance and fought with
Peter who was overwhelmed by all the illusions made by him! He made an illusion
where he killed Michelle and forced Peter to jump after her, hurting himself
bad. He even tricked him into saying who he told about him and the drones! And,
the worst one of the illusions was when he made Tony’s grave appear and Tony’s
Iron Man suit (which is destroyed) getting out of it. Whenever this happened,
Mysterio’s voice could be heard saying to Peter: “If you were good enough,
maybe Tony would still be alive!”.
After all this
nonsense, the villain put down his illusions and Peter was suddenly hit by a
train. Apparently, Mysterio made Peter got on the train rails, which made me
really mad at him! Even hurt, Pete managed to get into the train and
immediately fainted. When the boy woke up he was in a small village in Netherlands…
in a prison along with 3 guys. He escaped by pulling the door and called Happy
(Jon Favreau) when he was out. Happy soon came and took Peter with him in the
Stark Jet. Peter was really mad at himself because he made the mistake to trust
Mysterio. This is what he says: “Don’t tell me to relax! How can I relax when I
messed up so bad? I trusted Beck, right? So I gave him the only thing that Mr.
Stark left for me!”. He also says that he misses Tony: “Everywhere I go, I see
his face. I just really miss him.”.
He talked with Happy
about his problems and soon, he realized that Beck was going after his friends.
He checked Flash’s LIVE Story and found out that they were in London. They started
to go that way and Peter made a new suit with the equipment on the jet.
When they got
to London, Peter went to destroy the drones and Happy took care of MJ, Ned and
Betty (and Flash which followed them).
Peter fought a
very hard battle, but soon, after he destroyed the illusions with the monsters,
he confronted Beck.
He managed to
get through the illusions and the drone’s guns. But Beck hurt himself when he was
shot by one of them. But even hurt, nothing could’ve stopped him and tried to
shoot Peter in the head by making himself invisible. But Pete stopped him at
the right time and got his glasses back. Beck soon died and all the problems were
solved. (For me, that was a relief, but my sister, Teodora, was in pieces,
because she liked the villain and his evil plans!). Peter soon met Michelle
again and, finally, he told her that she liked her. Fortunately for our
superhero, the girl said the same and they became a couple.
Aaaah, it’s always the happy ending that everybody
wants, isn’t it? Well, the same is with this movie until you see the credit scenes…
In the first credit scene Peter flies with MJ trough
New York, with the help of his Spider-Webs. When they come back on the ground,
they talk a little bit and then they say goodbye.
But right
before they leave, the Daily Bugle” channel goes on a big screen on a building.
There’s Jonah J. Jameson (you would know if you saw the Spider-Man movies with
Tobey Maguire) who says that an anonymous source got a video where Mysterio is
shown a few moments before his death. The video is shown and Mysterio says that
Spider-Man is trying to kill him. Both MJ and Peter look very confused. The
video continues, although it is being interrupted, but Mysterio gets to say the
bomb: “Spider-Man is…. Spider-Man… is… PETER PARKER!”. A photo of Peter is
shown on the screen. This is how Peter reacts:
The whole theater made weird-surprised noises… and I
was horrified and kept asking myself: “Oh no, no, what will happen now? What will
everybody say? The kids in Peter’s school, his friends… what will their
reaction be like?” Unfortunately, now with that bad deal between Disney and Sony,
and Spider-Man out of MCU, I don’t think we will find out what was supposed to
happen after these events…
The second credit-scene is with Fury and Maria Hill.
Or should I say… Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) and his wife? That’s right! The two shapeshifters
are back from their last appearance in “Captain Marvel” (2018). Apparently Talos
and his wife replaced Fury and Hill all the time through the movie! I couldn’t
believe it! The real Fury is also shown, and he seems to be relaxing somewhere
in space! I don’t understand! Were the two skrulls transformed into the two
agents all the time in all the movies? Or was it just this time? I guess that’s
another thing we won’t found out because of Disney and Sony…
This was an intense movie! A lot of things happened,
but some didn’t really get the chance. For example, Michelle and Peter didn’t
get to go to Paris, to the Eiffel Tower… But I took them there :)) :
Yep, that’s right! This summer I was in Paris and took
them with me! And I must say, they had lots of fun together! (They also helped
me find different locations on the map! 😉).
